Waterfront Book Launching this Saturday - JOIN ME!!

This Saturday, on January 14th, I will be attending the book launching for Dr. Lucia Matthew’s new book, Harriett’s Walk: How To Make Wiser Choices For A Better Life. Dr. Matthews is a psychologist located in Barrington, RI. I had pleasure of meeting her a few years ago at a friend’s party and then again recently this past spring when she contacted me to take photos of her for her new book and also of her wonderful family (furry ones included).

You are all welcome to attend Dr. Matthew’s book launching which is a “Champagne Celebration” to be held at The Lobster Pot Restaurant in Bristol, RI from 12:30 - 2:30 on Saturday, Jan. 14th. She will be discussing and signing copies of her book.

On Saturday, January 21st, Dr. Matthews will be discussing and signing copies of her book at a Book Signing event to be held at Center Ace Hardware at 156 County Rd. in Barrington, RI from 1:00 – 3:00. I hope you can attend one of these “not to be missed” events!

Although I have not yet read Dr. Matthew’s book, I have no doubt that it will be as fascinating and inspiring as she is. I have read fabulous reviews and plan on purchasing my “signed” copy at the launching. I will eventually be posting my own review.

Harriett’s Walk is a self-help book but actually reads like a novel. Harriet is a fictional character who is forced into counseling after lunging at her husband with a kitchen knife. Under the care of “Dr. Aye”, she is taught nine skills to deal more wisely with her feelings. These are the actual skills that Dr. Matthew’s has taught to all of her clients to help them to manage stress and disappointment in their lives.

Are you interested in making wiser choices when dealing with stress and faced with some of life’s disappointments? I know I am and can’t wait to read this book! Let’s face it; we all feel like lunging at someone at some point in our lives and I want to personally learn about these 9 skills and hopefully be able to use them when faced with those out-of-control moments.

I took this photo of Dr. Matthews at her beautiful home in Barrington, RI. It was used for the back cover of her book. Doesn't she look fabulous?!

Spent my day with a nice young man from India….

Most people would gasp at the thought of spending over 4 hours on the phone with a technician from India. For me; I was happy to have made a new friend.

His name is Imran and he works for iYogi.com. iYogi is a Computer Repair and Tech service that supports Microsoft (and others). When I called the Microsoft support number because my E-mail had stopped working, I was very fortunate that Imran was the person who answered my call.

Imran took control of my computer and found so many problems that I was unaware of and proceeded to fix all of them. During this time, I had lots of coffee, made breakfast and even used my hand-held weights; but most of the time, we talked. Imran showed me (and explained in detail) all of the problems and errors lurking within my computer.

It’s my nature to be friendly and to ask a lot of random questions when I’m getting to know someone. Luckily, Imran was very personable and had no problem with that and we chatted about our families, our jobs, and a lot of other worldly matters. This certainly helped to pass the time. I found out that Imran had to move hundreds of miles away from his parents and siblings to get this job. It was obvious that he misses them.

I’m not always this lucky when calling for technical support whether it’s for computer, cable or some other type of connection problem. But on this day, I hit the jackpot. Imran was very knowledgeable and most important to me; friendly. He told me that he really liked his job and it certainly showed. His employer and his family should be very proud of this hard-working nice young man. Because of Imran and his great support, I actually bought a 2 year service plan. Imran called me yesterday (2 days later) to ask if everything was still okay and if I had any other questions. Wow! I sure wish I could ask for him personally if I ever have to call again but I know that’s not possible…..is it?

If you’re out there reading this Imran, I’m starting a list of questions for you just in case you ever decide to check in on me again.

I wish you Good Karma my friend!

A wedding and a funeral; a celebration of love & life...

I just had the most emotionally draining and exhausting weekend. It was both happy and sad and I am so fortunate to have been a part of every moment of both.

On Saturday, my husband and I attended and photographed the wedding of our very good friends of over 20 years. They have been together for 23 years, yet up until now, the state of CT did not allow them to marry each other.

Randy & Tony were married on a picture perfect day surrounded by their adoring family and friends. Love was certainly felt by all as we shared in the joining together of two beautiful people. It truly was an awesome day for all of us!

On Monday, I not only attended the funeral, but celebrated a life that was loved so much by so many. I am so thankful that I was able to be there in CT to support my longtime friend as she said her final goodbyes to her loving husband of 71 years. I have been friends with Vi and Dick for 35 years and have come to know their wonderful family as well. My heart breaks for all of them in the loss of such a wonderful man.

When I think of Dick, I'll always see him sitting on the sunny deck of his beachfront cottage in Old Saybrook, CT gazing out at the water and seagulls. I like to think that he continues to enjoy this beautiful view.
